Spring Workshop Recap: Exploring Lynches River County Park

SCNBTA members gathered in Florence County for our Spring Workshop on April 25, hosted at the beautiful Lynches River County Park and sponsored by the Florence Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB). With blooming trees, warm spring air, and great company, the day was the perfect setting to learn, connect, and explore.

We kicked off the day with a warm welcome from Park Superintendent Jennifer Majors and Sarah Howard, Environmental Discovery Center Supervisor. Sarah shared how the park’s summer camps and educational programming are inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards. Through hands-on experiences in the outdoors, kids at Lynches River County Park are learning about nature, conservation, and the joy of exploration.

Next, we boarded a guided bus tour for a field study of the 700-acre park, nestled along the scenic banks of the Lynches River. Ranger Scott MacGillivray introduced us to an impressive variety of amenities, including a new campground, equestrian campground and horse trails, cabins, splash pad, climbing wall, and of course, the Environmental Discovery Center, home to educational exhibits and live animal ambassadors.

Attendees also enjoyed lunch sponsored by Florence CVB from Holt Oil Co.

The workshop also included an SCNBTA business meeting where members shared updates and heard about upcoming projects and events.

This spring gathering was a fantastic opportunity to connect with fellow nature-based tourism professionals, learn more about a hidden gem in our state, and come away with fresh ideas for educational programming and outdoor engagement.

Thank you to the staff at Lynches River County Park and our generous sponsor, the Florence CVB, for helping make this workshop a success!
