SCNBTA Fall Workshop

Please join us for a day of learning and networking at Old Santee Canal Park on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, from 10AM to 2PM. Participants will learn from local experts about Berkeley County’s natural resources and opportunities for outdoor recreation and about the history of the Old Santee Canal Park. Following lunch there will be a tour of the Interpretive Center, Stony Landing, and other park attractions. After the workshop participants will have an chance to explore the park property on their own until closing.

This event is an opportunity for you to connect with industry experts, fellow nature enthusiasts, and local businesses to exchange ideas and collaborate on promoting responsible tourism in South Carolina.

More information regarding registration and the workshop agenda is detailed below.

Registration
All attendees are required to register and the cost is $15.00. The registration fee covers the workshop sessions, lunch, tour of the Interpretive Center, and access to explore the grounds. The deadline to register ends on August 30, 2024.

Workshop Venue
The event, hosted by Berkeley County Tourism, will be held at Old Santee Canal Park located at 900 Stony Landing Road, Moncks Corner, SC 29461. Admission to the park is free for workshop participants. Please let the gate attendant know you are there for the SCNBTA workshop.

For those interested in lodging there are several options available in the Nexton area, such as Hilton Garden InnCambria, and Courtyard Marriott. A full list of hotels can be found on the Berkeley County Tourism website.

Session Presentations

Old Santee Canal Park is a valuable community asset and a true gem for outdoor enthusiasts. The park, established more than 30 years ago, plays a valuable role in the education and conservation of natural resources and local history. In this session, we will hear from Education Coordinator, Adam Bedard, about birding and birding programs in the park, including NestWatch – a partnership with Audubon, bird banding, and the recent addition of their geolocator backpacks.

Phantom Outdoors is a local outdoor sporting goods store that provides quality hunting, fishing, and camping supplies, as well as an extensive clothing line for men, women, and children. Phantom Outdoors truly has everything visitors and locals need to stay, play, and explore Berkeley County. In this session, we will hear from Phantom Outdoors on the power of community support.

Field Study Exploration – After the morning guest speaker sessions and lunch, there will be a guided tour of some of the park attractions including the Interpretive Center, Stony Landing, and  a nature walk to Fort Fair Lawn.  After the workshop participants will have the opportunity to explore the park property on their own until the park closes at 5PM. **Please wear comfortable clothes/shoes and bring essentials such as sunscreen, hats, bug spray, rain jacket, and water if planning to participate.
