Guest Speakers
From Globe-Trotting to Lake Living: A Journey in Nature-Based Hospitality
Jud Yaski, Owner, Bells Marina & Resort
Jud Yaski is a builder of place-based hospitality who blends entrepreneurial drive with a deep respect for nature and community. Through his work at historic Bell’s Marina & Resort on Lake Marion, he has transformed a historic property into a vibrant hub that connects travelers to the lake’s natural beauty, regional foodways, and outdoor adventure. His vision goes beyond the marina — he co-founded Destination-Earth.org, an initiative dedicated to cultural immersion and responsible tourism in small villages and natural landscapes worldwide. He is reviving this passion by leading a trip to Tanzania in June of 2026 with social projects and off the beaten path adventures in the region.
Together with his wife and partner, Dao Chai, Jud leads with both practicality and heart. Dao’s presence grounds their work in care, cultural sensitivity, and hospitality that feels authentic rather than manufactured. Their shared philosophy is that travel should enrich both the guest and the host community — whether that means highlighting local fishing guides in Eutawville, supporting regional food producers, or designing off-the-beaten-path experiences that respect fragile ecosystems and supporting villages near and afar.
Jud and Dao’s mission is to create nature-based tourism experiences that sustain people and places. They are committed to weaving economic growth with stewardship, inviting guests into authentic encounters with Lake Marion and beyond, while ensuring local communities benefit. Whether through the joyful events they host locally, or the outreach of Destination-Earth.org, their work aims to model how tourism can be a force for preservation, prosperity, and connection.
Join conference hosts and Bell’s Marina owners, Jud Yaski and Dao Chai, as they share their inspiring journey from globe-trotting adventurer to small-town entrepreneur. Alongside his wife, Jud brings a background rich in hospitality, from organizing outdoor picnics and participating in Destination Earth to exploring the world through adventure travel.
In this session, Jud will discuss their move from the Bay Area to the tranquil shores of Lake Marion, South Carolina, and the challenges and growth that come with transforming a small fish camp into a nature-based tourism retreat for outdoor enthusiasts.
Participants will also learn about the historic and natural significance of the property, and how the couple’s vision is rooted in creating meaningful connections between people and nature.
