The Edisto, a blackwater river, flows from Saluda and Edgefield counties in the midlands south to Edisto Beach on the coast.
Friends of the Edisto is an active group of members and partners representing various socioeconomic groups and public and private entities throughout the Edisto River Basin (ERB). We work to protect the natural and cultural resources of the ERB through conservation and responsible use. This includes management and development techniques designed to protect and enhance the soil, water, air and wildlife habitat. We provide valuable guidance for future economic development and resource conservation and strive to improve the stewardship of the basin through education, advocacy, technical assistance and research.
The river is perfect for kayaking, canoeing and wildlife viewing. To learn more about the river’s access points, click here.
